What to Wear on a Desert Safari in Dubai

Wear loose, breathable clothes that cover your shoulders, shoes you don't mind filling with sand, sunglasses and a scarf. In winter, bring a light jacket for after sunset. There's no strict dress code, but modest clothing is respectful at the camp.

Quick checklist

• Loose cotton or linen top and trousers or a long skirt
• Closed trainers or sturdy sandals (flip-flops are fine for the camp)
• Sunglasses and a cap or hat
• A scarf or bandana: it keeps sand off your face and makes great photos
• A light jacket or hoodie from November to March
• Sunscreen and a small bag for your phone

Women

Long dresses, maxi skirts and wide-leg trousers photograph beautifully on the dunes. Avoid very short or see-through outfits at the camp out of respect for local culture. For the flying-dress shoot we provide the dress, so wear neutral underlayers.

Men

Shorts and a T-shirt are fine for dune bashing. Bring long trousers if you'll ride a quad or buggy, so the sand and sun stay off your legs.

Kids

Light long sleeves, a hat and closed shoes. Pack a change of clothes, because kids love rolling down the dunes.

By activity

• Dune bashing: Anything comfortable. Eat light 2-3 hours before
• Quad or buggy: Closed shoes, long trousers, sunglasses (helmet and goggles provided)
• Camel ride: Trousers or a long skirt you can sit astride in
• Overnight: Warm layer, pyjamas, toiletries

Is there a dress code for the desert safari?

No strict code. Modest, comfortable clothes are recommended at the camp.

Can I wear shorts?

Yes, for men and women, although knee-length is more respectful at the camp.

What shoes should I wear?

Trainers or sturdy sandals. Heels sink in the sand.
